‘Somehow, Battlefront 2 Returned’: Player Counts Rise During Campaign For Battlefront 3

Battlefront 2, EA’s second Star Wars Battlefield-Esque title, has received a major boost in playership as of recent days, following a reddit and tiktok campaign by fans to push for the development of a third installment.

The game soared from its 1,540 peak player count on analytics site Steam Charts, to over 17,000 in the last month. The reason? Players desperately want Battlefront 3. And it may indeed be working. A comment on a recent reddit thread on the r/StarWarsBattlefront by user u/Matshelge, seemingly a former BF2 developer, states ‘having heard around my group of ex-colleagues, we want to get the gang back together.’ Of course, anything said on the internet must be taken with a grain of salt, but if true, this would mean interest for a third installment is not just among fans, but developers as well. Whilst a lot of fans are seemingly on board with EA at the helm of a third installment, others may be hesitant. Battlefront 2 released to what could be considered one of the biggest video game controversies of the 2010s, with microtransactions which riddled the game’s titular characters, such as Darth Vader. To this day, EA’s response to a fan’s outrage via Reddit is the most downvoted comment in Reddit history, sitting at -668K. I myself am hesitant, and remain cautious about EA handling a third title.

Nonetheless, Star Wars fans across platforms have given Battlefront 2 a new lease of life. Those with Xbox Games Pass (PC and Xbox) can download the game and jump in right now. For those without this luxury, the game sits at £34.99 on Steam, and £17.99 on Playstation Store.
